Prime Sleep Opens In Scottsdale, Plans More Than A Dozen Valley Stores

Prime Sleep, a mattress retailer new to the Phoenix market, has opened its first Valley location and plans to open more than a dozen stores in the next two years.

Phoenix is the first market Prime Sleep has expanded to outside of its hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. It opened in North Scottsdale at 15811 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd.

“We believe that Phoenix is a fantastic market to expand our brand,” Prime Sleep CEO Gary Cary said in a statement.

Prime Sleep’s expansion is being fueled somewhat by its ability to sell well-known brands in its stores. The company sells Tempur-Pedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster branded mattresses, which are all developed, made and sold by Tempur Sealy International Inc. (NYSE: TPX).

After Tempur Sealy broke off its contract with Houston-based Mattress Firm Holding Corp. in 2017, it made it harder for consumers to get their hands on these brands.

The next two area Prime Sleep locations to open will be in the West Valley. One will open in Glendale on the southeast corner of Glendale Avenue and Loop 101 Freeway. The other will be at Lake Pleasant Pavilion at the southwest corner of Happy Valley Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria.

Dave Cheatham and Darren Pitts of Velocity Retail represent Prime Sleep in Arizona, working with Bryan Cornelius of Venture Commercial in Dallas as the master broker for the mattress chain. In a press release, Cheatham said Velocity is working with Prime Sleep to open a number of other Phoenix locations.

“The plan is to be in every major retail hub throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area in the next 18 to 24 months,” Cheatham said.

Prime Sleep will not have to worry about a warehouse because it partnered with Dallas-based full service storage company Callbox Storage LLC. Callbox, which recently started operating in Phoenix, will handle the mattress retailer’s inventory management and delivery.Callbox leased an 80,000-square-foot warehouse near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport early this year. It will use its trucks and warehouse to store and deliver mattresses for Prime Sleep.
